TNBRD Assistant & Stenographer Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:

1. Senior Scientist and Head -

Doctoral  degree  in  Agriculture  subject  including relevant basic sciences with 8 years experience in the  relevant  subject  as  Scientist/Lecturer/ Extension  Specialist  or in  an  equivalent  position in the Pay Band3 of Rs. 1560039100 with Grade Pay  of  Rs.5400/  Rs.6000/  Rs.7000/  Rs.8000 having  made  contribution  to  research/teaching/ extension  education  as  evidenced  by  published work/innovations and impact.


a. For disciplines other than Engineering subject Doctoral  degree  in  Agriculture  subject including  relevant  basic  science  with  8  years experiences  in  relevant  subject  Scientist/ Lecturer/  Extension  specialist  or  in  an equivalent  having  made  contribution  to research/  teaching/  extension  as  evidence  by published work/ innovations and impact.


b. For Engineering disciplines: Doctoral degree in relevant  Agriculture  engineering  subject  with 6  years  experiences  as  Scientist/  Lecturer/ Extension  specialist  or  in  an  equivalent position  having  made  contribution  to research/  teaching/  extension  education  as evidence  by  published  work/innovations  and impact


c.  Master  degree  in  relevant  Agriculture engineering subject with 10 years experiences as  Scientist/Lecturer/Extension  specialist  or in  an  equivalent  position  having  made contribution  to  research/  teaching/  extension education  as  evidence  by  published work/innovations and impact.


Specialization  in  implementing  extension education programmes

2. Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) -

Essential:  Master’s  degree  in  Horticulture or any  other  branch  of  science/social  science relevant  to  Horticulture or  Equivalent qualification from a recognized University.


1. Two years  experience  in  KVK/Extension Education  Project  activities  from  a  reputed institution or firm.

2. Working knowledge of computer.

3. Programme Assistant (Lab Technician) -

Essential: Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture or any other  branch  of  science/social  science  relevant  to Agriculture  or  equivalent  qualifications  from  a recognized University.


1. Working  experience  in  Soil  &  Water  testing laboratory (or)

2. One  year  experience  in  KVK/Extension Education  Project  activities  from  a  reputed institution or firm. 3. Working knowledge of computer.

4. Assistant -

Essential: Bachelor’s  degree  from  a  recognized University.


1. Working  experience  in  Accounts  and  Office Administration.

2. Working knowledge of Computers.

5. Stenographer (Grade ­III) -

Essential: 12th  class  pass  or  equivalent  from recognized Board/University.

Professional Efficiency: The candidates will be given one dictation test in English or Tamil at 80 w.p.m. for l0 minutes. The candidates who opt to take the test in English will be  required  to  transcribe  the  matter  in  50 Minutes on computer and the candidates who opt to  take  the  test  in  Tamil  will  be  required  to transcribe  the  matter  65  minutes  on  computer. Short Hand is desirable.

Age Limit: (As on 22.11.2022)

1. Senior Scientist and Head - 47 years

2. Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) - 35 years

3. Programme Assistant (Lab Technician) - 30 years

4. Assistant - 27 years

5. Stenographer (Grade ­III) - 27 years

 The Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC, 10 Years for Persons with Disabilities (15 years for SC/ST PWD’s & 13 years for OBC PWD’s) and for Ex-S as per Govt. of India rules. Salary Details:

1. Senior Scientist and Head - Pay Level 13 A

2. Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture) - Pay Level 10

3. Programme Assistant (Lab Technician) - Pay Level 6

4. Assistant - Pay Level 6

5. Stenographer (Grade ­III) - Pay Level 4

TNBRD may follow the following process to select the candidates.

Application Fee/Exam Fee for TNBRD Assistant & Stenographer: 

Application form must accompany with a Bank Draft / Demand Draft of

(a) Rs. 500/­ for post of Senior Scientist & Head and  (Sl. No. 1 & 2) Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture)

(b) Rs. 300/­ for post of Programme Assistant (Lab Technician),    (Sl. No. 3, 4 & 5) Assistant and Stenographer.

(SC/ST/Persons with Disabilities are exempted and the relevant certificate should be enclosed)  drawn  in  favour  of “TAMIL NADU BOARD OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT, CHENNAI” payable at Chennai, failing which the application will be rejected. No other means of payment like cheque,  NEFT,  etc.,  The  date  of  Bank  draft  should  not  be  prior to the date  of  issue  of  the advertisement and the same should be valid for a period of three months. Candidate must write ‘His / Her name and Post applied’ on the back side of the Bank Draft.

- Candidates fulfilling the prescribed eligibility criteria should download and print the prescribed Application Form proforma available on

- Only  one  application  for  one  post  will  be  accepted,  as  perproforma  along  with  self  attested copies  of  relevant  certificates  and Rs.25/­  stamped  self addressed envelope.  The  photograph should be self attested.

- The  envelope  containing  the  application  form  should  be  super­scribed in bold letters as ‘APPLICATION FOR THE POST OF ____________________________________________________’.

- Local language (Tamil) is preferable.

- Name of the post for which applied must be clearly indicated on the envelope along with sender’s name  and  address.  Application  should  be  addressed  to  the  “THE PRESIDENT, TAMIL NADU BOARD OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT, Post Box No. 8811, T. Nagar, Chennai – 600 017, Tamil Nadu.”
