UPSC Scientist Eligibility Criteria:

Educational Qualification:  

1. Anthropologist (Cultural Anthropology Division) -

EDUCATIONAL:  Master’s degree in Anthropology of a recognized University with more than fifty percent papers in Cultural Anthropology in final year examination.

EXPERIENCE: Three years’ research experience in Anthropology.

2. Assistant Central Intelligence Officer Grade-I -

EDUCATIONAL:  M.Sc in Chemistry or Physics or Forensic Science with Chemistry or Physics as one of the subjects during all the three years of Bachelor of Science level from a recognized University.

EXPERIENCE: Two years experience in research and analytical work in the field of Documents Examination in any Central Government or State Government organizations or recognized institutes or University or Forensic Science Laboratories under the Central Government or State Governments. DESIRABLE: Working in a Forensic Science laboratory

3. Scientist ‘B’ (Ballistics) -

EDUCATIONAL:  Master Degree in Physics or Mathematics or Applied Mathematics or Forensic Science with Physics or Mathematics as one of the subjects during all the three years of bachelor of science from a recognised University or Institute.

EXPERIENCE: Three years experience of analytical methods and research therein in the field of Ballistics from a government recognised organization or institution.

DESIRABLE: One year experience of working in a Forensic Science Laboratory under the Central or State Government or Union Territory administration after obtaining the minimum prescribed educational qualifications.

4. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Electronics) -

EDUCATIONAL:  Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Technology in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) or Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) or Information Technology or Electronics or Electrical and Electronics (EEE) from a recognised University or Institute; OR Master degree in Computer Science or Electronics or Forensic Science with Physics as one of the subjects during all the three years of Bachelor of Science from recognised University or institute.

EXPERIENCE: Three years experience of analytical methods and research therein in the field of Forensic Electronics from a government recognised organization or institution.

DESIRABLE: One year experience of working in a Forensic Science Laboratory under the Central or State Government or Union Territory administration after obtaining the minimum prescribed educational qualifications.

5. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Psychology) -

EDUCATIONAL:  Master degree in Psychology or Criminology from recognised University or Institute; OR Master degree in Forensic Science with specialisation in Psychology or Criminology from a recognised University or Institute.

EXPERIENCE: Three years experience of analytical methods and research therein in the field of Forensic Psychology from a government recognised orgnization or institution.

DESIRABLE: One year experience of working in a forensic science laboratory under the Central or State Government or Union Territory administration after obtaining the minimum prescribed educational qualifications.

6. Rehabilitation Officer -

EDUCATIONAL:  Post Graduate Degree in Social Work/Sociology/Education/Psychology of a recognized university or equivalent.

EXPERIENCE: Three years’ experience in work relating to rehabilitation or placement or evaluation or training of physically handicapped persons

7. Deputy Director General/Regional Director -

EDUCATIONAL:  (i) Graduation in any discipline from a recognized university; (ii) Diploma or Certificate of foreign language course, other than English, for a minimum period of six months.

EXPERIENCE: Ten years’ experience in the field of tourism or public relations or publicity or administrative work including five years’ experience in the field of tourism and hospitality in the Central Government or State Government or the Union Territory administration or Public Sector Undertakings or Universities or recognized research institutions or statutory or autonomous organizations or Government recognized educational institutions or registered corporate entities.

DESIRABLE: Master Degree or Master of Business Administration or Post Graduate Diploma in Management in Tourism or Tourism Management or Tourism and Travels or Tourism, Travel and Hospitality Management or Tourism and Travel Management or Tourism Studies or Tourism Administration.

Age Limit:

1. Anthropologist (Cultural Anthropology Division) - 38 years

2. Assistant Central Intelligence Officer Grade-I - 30 years

3. Scientist ‘B’ (Ballistics) - 35 years

4. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Electronics) - 35 years

5. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Psychology) – 35 years

6. Rehabilitation Officer – 30 years

7. Deputy Director General/Regional Director - 50 years.

The Upper age limit is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST; 3 years for OBC, 10 Years for Persons with Disabilities (15 years for SC/ST PWD’s & 13 years for OBC PWD’s) and for Ex-S as per Govt. of India rules. Salary Details:

1. Anthropologist (Cultural Anthropology Division) - Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.

2. Assistant Central Intelligence Officer Grade-I - Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.

3. Scientist ‘B’ (Ballistics) - Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC.

4. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Electronics) - Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC

5. Scientist ‘B’ (Forensic Psychology) - Level- 10 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC

6. Rehabilitation Officer - Level- 07 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC

7. Deputy Director General/Regional Director - Level- 12 in the Pay Matrix as per 7th CPC

Application Fee/Exam Fee for UPSC Scientist: 

(a) Candidates are required to pay a fee of Rs. 25/- (Rupees Twenty five) only either by remitting the money in any branch of the SBI by cash or by using net banking facility of the SBI or by using visa/master credit/debit card.

(b) No fee for SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates of any community. No "fee exemption" is available to Gen/OBC/EWS male candidates and they are required to pay the full prescribed fee.

(c) Applications without the prescribed fee would not be considered and summarily rejected. No representation against such rejection would be entertained.

(d) Fee once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstance nor can the fee be held in reserve for any other examination or selection.
